ABVP Assault Leaves Students Injured, Victim Alleges Casteist Abuse and VC’s Silence

New Delhi: Tensions flared on campus after students alleged a violent assault by Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) members, leaving several injured. Among the victims, Mritunjay — who sustained multiple injuries — accused the attackers of using rods and other weapons while raising casteist slurs.

“While the ABVP goons were beating us with rods and other weapons, nobody from the vice chancellor’s office came to take cognisance — even though it was just 50 meters away from the place of the assault,” Mritunjay said, adding that the administration’s inaction speaks volumes.

He further alleged that the attackers hurled the “cruellest slurs” at the group, targeting one of the students for belonging to a Scheduled Caste (SC) community.
The incident has triggered outrage among students, who say the silence of the university administration amounts to complicity. Student groups are demanding accountability from the vice chancellor’s office and legal action against those responsible for the assault and casteist abuse.

The episode underscores the growing concern over campus violence and caste-based discrimination, with critics warning that unchecked political muscle on campuses is eroding the very purpose of higher education institutions.
