URI (BARAMULLA), Aug 13 — In a tense overnight operation along the Line of Control (LoC) in North Kashmir’s Uri sector, the Army thwarted an infiltration attempt by heavily armed militants, triggering a fierce exchange of fire.
According to officials, troops on high alert detected suspicious movement along the LoC late Tuesday, prompting immediate engagement. The infiltrators, believed to be backed from across the border, retaliated with heavy gunfire, leading to a deadly firefight. One Army soldier made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.
The Army has since launched an extensive counter-infiltration operation, deploying additional forces and combing teams across the rugged terrain. Officials say measures have also been put in place to counter any possible involvement of Pakistan’s Border Action Team (BAT).
“Operations are ongoing and the area has been cordoned off to prevent any escape. Search efforts are being intensified to track down any remaining infiltrators,” an official source told The Kashmir Graph.
Security agencies believe the infiltration bid is part of a renewed push to disturb peace in the Valley ahead of upcoming events and high-profile visits.
More details are expected as the operation continues.
