New Delhi, Aug 13: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to use his 79th Independence Day speech from the Red Fort to unveil the Centre’s roadmap for restoring full statehood to Jammu & Kashmir — a move that could mark the most significant political shift in the Union Territory since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019.
According to Dainik Bhaskar, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha has submitted formal recommendations to the Centre, with sources indicating that a public announcement by the Prime Minister could set the wheels in motion for legislative and procedural steps.
Officials said introducing a bill in the Assembly will be a crucial prerequisite before J&K transitions back from Union Territory status to full statehood. If initiated, the process is expected to gain swift momentum, signalling a new political chapter for the region.
The anticipated move comes nearly six years after the erstwhile state was bifurcated into Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, a decision that reshaped the region’s political and administrative landscape.
