Kupwara, Aug 13: In a decisive counter-terrorism strike, security forces have recovered a significant cache of arms and ammunition during an ongoing joint operation in the dense forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district.
Officials said the operation, codenamed Op Alachizab, was launched after credible intelligence indicated the presence of militant stockpiles in the Alachizab area of Gulgam Forest. A joint team of the Indian Army and Jammu & Kashmir Police combed the rugged terrain, uncovering war-like stores, including a pistol, explosives, grenades, and large quantities of ammunition.
Security officials described the haul as a major setback to attempts aimed at disrupting peace in the region, underscoring the forested Kupwara belt’s continued vulnerability to infiltration and arms smuggling from across the Line of Control.
The search operation remains in progress as forces meticulously sweep the thick foliage to eliminate the possibility of any hidden militant presence or additional caches.
